Need to Travel Light? 3 Tips for Multi-City Travel

Multi-city travel is quite a different journey from simply visiting a single location. Take Italy, for example. Spending two weeks means seeing the Duomo in Milan, driving to Florence to see David and the Da Vinci Museum, and then on to Rome, taking trains to see the sights with your trusty carry on size travel backpack. Here are a few tips to make multi-city travel easier.

Pack Light

The first tip is to pack light. That doesn’t mean you can’t use large checked luggage, it just means you should take care when packing. Be smart, don’t overpack, and use packing cubes to ensure you have what you need. You can even use cubes to pack clothing for each city, either individually or by type, making it easier to repack before you leave. The key is to pack light enough to stay mobile. You’ll be lifting your luggage on trains and planes, into the back of cars, and even pulling them down cobblestone streets. Bear this in mind when packing.

Know How to Get Around

Knowing how to get around cities is important, since you’ll be on the move often in a multi-city adventure. This is especially important in unfamiliar cities. Renting a car is often the most efficient way to get between cities, but in many countries, trains might be a better option. Do your research beforehand. Public transportation can be easier and cheaper.

Plan Ahead

Planning ahead is essential, even if it’s just with an idea of where you’re going and how to get there. Where to stay is also important. What, exactly, you’re doing at your destination can be played by ear, but you need to know where you’re taking your lightweight carry on luggage with wheels, and whether it’s narrow streets, a taxi, or a train you’ll need to get there. Otherwise, you could find yourself hauling your luggage a mile from the train station, having not planned ahead.
